Frequently Asked Questions

Understanding Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)

What is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)?

SMP is a semi-permanent, non-surgical hair loss solution for men and women. It provides an immediate, natural-looking result by replicating the appearance of real hair follicles. Unlike other hair restoration treatments, SMP works 100% of the time, with no downtime or invasive procedures.

How does SMP work?

We use nano-needles to deposit pigment droplets just below the scalp’s surface, carefully matching the natural shape, size, and shade of real hair follicles. This technique creates the illusion of a full head of shaved hair, blending seamlessly with your natural hairline.

Is SMP the same as a tattoo?

Although similar in concept, SMP is not a traditional tattoo. Key differences include:
Specialized pigment that won’t fade into unnatural colors
Shallower pigment placement to prevent ink migration
Ultra-fine needles that mimic the precise look of real hair follicles

Treatment Process & Expectations

How long does the treatment take?

A complete SMP treatment usually requires three to four sessions, each lasting between 1 to 2 hours. These sessions are spaced 7-10 days apart to allow for healing and optimal pigment retention.

Will the pigment change color over time?

No. We use a carbon-based pigment specifically formulated for scalp micropigmentation. Unlike tattoo ink, it contains no underlying colors that could cause it to turn blue, green, or red over time.

How long does SMP last?

Your SMP results will last 4-6 years before requiring a touch-up. However, gradual fading may begin within 1-2 years, depending on factors such as sun exposure and skin type.

Does SMP work for all hair colors?

Yes! We customize the pigment to match all hair colors, including brown, blonde, ginger, grey, and even white hair.

What makes your SMP needles different from tattoo needles?

We use nano-needles, which are significantly smaller and more precise than standard tattoo needles. This ensures that each pigment deposit flawlessly replicates a natural hair follicle.

How is the 3D SMP effect achieved?

We use a combination of different pigment shades and dot sizes throughout your sessions. This creates a realistic, multi-dimensional look that blends seamlessly with existing hair, making it indistinguishable from natural follicles—even up close.

How soon can I start after my consultation?

Many clients book their first session immediately after their consultation. Appointment availability varies, but most clients begin treatment within a week.

Aftercare & Maintenance

How long does it take to heal?

Healing takes approximately 5-10 days, with no scabbing involved. Some mild redness may occur immediately after treatment but typically fades within 24-48 hours.

How should I prepare before my first session?

We recommend shaving your head within 24 hours of your appointment to achieve the best results.

How often should I shave my head after treatment?

Most clients maintain a 0.5 clipper length or use a foil shaver every few days, but it ultimately depends on your personal preference.

Can I wash my scalp or sweat after treatment?

  • Avoid washing your scalp for five days post-treatment.

  • After 10 days, you can resume using shampoo and other hair products.

  • Avoid excessive sweating, gym workouts, or steam rooms for at least 5-7 days to ensure optimal healing.

Will sweating affect my healing?

If your job involves physical labor or frequent sweating, it’s important to minimize perspiration for the first few days after each session to allow the pigment to settle properly.

Can I tan or use sunbeds after SMP?

Excessive UV exposure can cause your SMP to fade faster. Avoid sunbeds, and on sunny days, use SPF 20+ sunscreen or wear a hat for protection.

How long until I need a touch-up?

Most clients book a minor touch-up every 1-2 years. These sessions are quick and affordable, charged at an hourly rate, and help keep your SMP looking fresh.
